Tinnitus
Tinnitus is the perception of sound in your ears or head that isn�t caused by a third party source. There are many different conditions that can cause tinnitus and in some cases it can occur for no known explanation.
Mild tinnitus is typical, affecting about one out of 10 people. There are 2 types of tinnitus.
Subjective tinnitus - seems can only be heard by you. It�s the most prevalent type of tinnitus which is usually linked to difficulties affecting your ability to hear (auditory) system.
Goal tinnitus - seems can be heard by you or your GP when he or she listens by way of a stethoscope placed around your ear. This particular tinnitus is less common and is usually caused by a physical problem that creates sound in or near the ear. By way of example, problems with narrowing of your blood vessels.

There are a few simple things you can consider yourself that may help deal with your symptoms of tinnitus and improve your total well being.
- Take physical exercise and make time to relax.
- Keep a low level of background noise, such as an opened window, a follower or leave the radio on.
- Listen to recorded relaxation noises, such as rain, the water or bird song. If you�re using them at night and don�t want to disturb your partner, try an MP3 player with pillow speakers.
- Reducing your exposure to loud noises, as this can make your tinnitus worse and may lead to hearing harm.

Living with tinnitus
