Tinnitus is the thought of sound in your ears or head that isn�t caused by some other source. There are many different circumstances that can cause tinnitus and often it can occur for no known reason.
Mild tinnitus is common, affecting about one in 10 people. There are two types of tinnitus.
Subjective tinnitus - sounds can only be observed by you. It�s the most common type of tinnitus and it is usually linked to issues affecting your hearing (auditory) system.
Goal tinnitus - noises can be heard by you or your GP when he or she listens via a stethoscope placed around your ear. This particular tinnitus is less common and is usually the result of a physical problem that makes sound in or near the ear. For instance, problems with narrowing of your blood vessels.
Self-help
There are many simple things you can attempt yourself that may help handle your symptoms of tinnitus and improve your total well being.
- Take physical exercise and take the time to relax.
- Keep a low level of backdrop noise, such as an opened window, a fan or leave the radio on.
- Listen to recorded relaxation appears to be, such as rain, the ocean or bird tune. If you�re using them at night and don�t want to disturb your partner, try an MP3 player with pillow speakers.
- Reducing your exposure to loud noises, as this can make your tinnitus worse and may lead to hearing injury.
