Tinnitus is the thought of sound in your the ears or head that isn�t caused by a third party source. There are many different conditions that can cause tinnitus and often it can occur for no known purpose.

Mild tinnitus is usual, affecting about one out of 10 people. There are 2 types of tinnitus.

Subjective tinnitus - noises can only be heard by you. It�s the most typical type of tinnitus and is usually linked to difficulties affecting your seeing and hearing (auditory) system.

Goal tinnitus - noises can be heard by you or your GP when he or she listens through a stethoscope placed near your ear. This sort of tinnitus is less frequent and is usually the result of a physical problem which produces sound in or near the ear. For instance, problems with narrowing of your respective blood vessels.

Self-help

There are a few simple things you can attempt yourself that may help deal with your symptoms of tinnitus and improve your way of life.

  • Take regular exercise and make time to relax.
