Tinnitus
Tinnitus is the thought of sound in your the ears or head that isn�t caused by an outside source. There are many different problems that can cause tinnitus and often it can occur for no known reason.
Mild tinnitus is usual, affecting about one out of 10 people. There are two types of tinnitus.
Subjective tinnitus - seems can only be observed by you. It�s the most typical type of tinnitus and is also usually linked to problems affecting your seeing and hearing (auditory) system.
Goal tinnitus - seems can be heard by you or your GP when he or she listens via a stethoscope placed around your ear. This type of tinnitus is less common and is usually the effect of a physical problem which produces sound in or near the ear. For instance, problems with narrowing of your own blood vessels.
Self-help
There are a few simple things you can test yourself that may help control your symptoms of ringing in ears and improve your standard of living.
- Take physical exercise and make time to relax.
- Keep a low level of history noise, such as an opened window, a follower or leave the radio on.
- Listen to recorded relaxation sounds, such as rain, the ocean or bird music. Try an MP3 player with pillow speakers if you�re using them at night and don�t want to disturb your partner.
- Reducing your exposure to loud sound, as this can make your tinnitus worse and may lead to hearing injury.

Living with tinnitus
